Poorest States in Nigeria 2020… Nigeria is a country made up of 36 states and due to its natural resources, it is assumed that the states should be productive and are meant to have good governance capable of managing these resources to generate revenue but the reverse is the case.

Top 10 Poorest States in Nigeria 2020

Some states in Nigeria are down with poverty by 70% and this is as a result of bad governance, inability to manage resources or security problems.

Below are the lists of the poorest states in Nigeria according to the data from the National Bureau of Statistics, which were compiled using the following factors:  state of economy, development of infrastructures, governance, literacy level and security.

 

1. Sokoto state

 

Sokoto has been rated as the poorest state in Nigeria many times, ranking 81.2% on poverty level. The harsh climate conditions have restricted people from going to this state and have prevented investments from foreigners. It is also the seat of the caliphate.

 

2. Katsina state

 

Katsina is one of the poorest states in Nigeria because it has few or no sectors generating revenue for the state. It is located at the deepest part of the North-Western area of Nigeria.

 

3. Adamawa state

 

Adamawa state has a poverty level of 74.2% as a result of its citizens fleeing the state for safety reasons due to the recurrent attacks from Boko Haram terrorists.

 

4. Gombe state

 

Gombe state located in the North-West is also facing insecurities with poor economy has a poverty level of 73.2%.

 

5. Jigawa state

 

Jigawa state has a poverty level of 72.1% due to its low literacy level and growth of the economy. This state is located in the North-Western part of Nigeria.

 

6. Plateau state

 

Plateau state is one of the most populated states in Nigeria and has many tourist sites. The state suffers tribal conflict which has reduced its economy by 71%.

 

7. Ebonyi state

 

Ebonyi state is the only state in the South-East part of Nigeria that is among the poorest states in Nigeria with poverty level of 70.6% due to low level of literacy and bad government.

 

8. Bauchi state

 

Bauchi state lacks the basic facilities of life and it is severely damaged by a long war that is why it is called a war torn zone. The state has recorded much mortality rate.

 

9. Kebbi state

 

Kebbi state located in the North-West is listed to be one of the poorest states in Nigeria; it has a poverty level of 72%.

 

10. Zamfara

 

Zamfara state located in the North-Western part of Nigeria, has a poverty level of 70.8. The residents are affected a lot by hunger, disease and conflict.
