As an applicant, you have access to your Choose>Ryerson Applicant Portal until late September, after which time your Choose>Ryerson Applicant Portal account will be deactivated. After this closure, your communications will remain available through RAMSS.
General requirements for studying in Canada

Undergraduate requirements
Undergraduate requirements depend on the type of institution one chooses, this is usually in form of prerequisites and assessments guiding the processes involved in a certain University or College to offer an academic degree, which varies in different ways depending on if the student is a foreigner or a permanent resident.
For admission into undergraduate level, student must have completed twelve years of academic education, but for postgraduate level it is sixteen years. Below you can find undergraduate requirements for most Canadian Tertiary Institutions.
All applicants into undergraduate programs must submit:
- A completed application form;
- An official high school transcript (or attested copy) (if applicable);
- Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if any);
- A detailed chronological résumé to demonstrate educational achievements, work experience, progression, community involvement, volunteer experience, and other related experience; and
- A Letter of Intent (LOI) that clearly explains why the applicant is applying and outlines the student’s academic intentions.
Applicants who completed high school or any post-secondary study outside Canada must also submit:
- Documentation confirming their high school completion was awarded, if not already indicated on official transcripts; and
- Proof of English language proficiency.
Finally it is important for you to know that major languages used in Canada are English and French. But most of the universities offer courses in English language. So you need to show your efficiency by means of English Language tests.
IELTS is most widely recognized and accepted English proficiency test in Canada, however, some universities and colleges accept TOEFL. The score that you must obtain in these language tests vary from institution to institution and course of study.
Some universities even seek for other medium of English language test assessment. For MBA, students may be asked for two years of work experience before being admitted to the university. In most of the cases GMAT is compulsory for MBA students.

How to Apply for Ryerson University
Apply Online
Once you’ve selected your program(s), reviewed admission requirements and used the document checklist to prepare your application, you can begin the application process. We strongly recommend applying as soon as possible but check the appropriate program website(s) for specific deadlines.
At Ryerson, all graduate applications are submitted online. Submitting a complete application package is a two-part process: 1) submitting your application through OUAC and 2) uploading your documents. Our system is easy-to-use and saves you time. The online system is mandatory; The Yeates School of Graduate Studies will not accept any hard copy application packages, nor will they be processed.
* Applicants to the Master of Architecture program are required to submit both an e-copy and a hard copy portfolio. The hard copy must be mailed to the Graduate Architecture program directly. Please refer to the program website for more details.
Step 1:
Gather all the required documents for your specific program(s) of choice. Allocate approximately one hour to complete the application. You may submit the OUAC application form before you have completed gathering all of your application material.
Step 2:
Complete the external online application, external link. The online application is administered by the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) When you begin the application process, you will be transferred to the OUAC website where you will be able to complete and submit your application. The OUAC requires you to create an OUAC Account (if you do not already have one). You may have only one OUAC Account. If you are having any technical difficulties with the application, please contact the OUAC directly at [email protected] or by telephone at (519)823-1063
Please be advised that each application submitted requires a non-refundable application fee of $110 per program or $150 for the MBA program.
- Once your application has been submitted, you cannot change the program(s) you originally selected. Please make sure to apply to the correct program;
- An online account will be created for you in our student information system called RAMSS within 1-2 business days; and
- Make sure to check all junk and spam mail as e-mails containing upload instructions will be sent from RAMSS within 2-3 business days from the time you submit your application and payment to the OUAC.
Step 3:
Once you have submitted your online application, you will be emailed instructions within 2-3 business days on how to create your online identity and upload your required documents electronically. Please ensure your documents are clearly labelled before they are uploaded.
If you applied last year, you will be required to submit the new application summary and fee as well as any updated documents.

- The only file format that will be accepted is PDF.
- All materials, including transcripts submitted to Ryerson, become the property of the university and will not be returned.
Once you have gathered all of your required documents and activated your online identity, you can login to the Applicant Upload portal and begin the upload process.
*Unfortunately, you will not be able to upload documents as of Friday, December 21, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. as Ryerson University is closed for the Mid-Year Winter Break. You can start uploading documents again on Monday, January 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. when Ryerson University re-opens.
Step 4:
Once you have successfully uploaded all of your required documents, your application will enter the review process.
Step 5:
Monitor the status of your application through your student centre in RAMSS and through the Applicant Upload portal. Generally, offers of admission begin mid- to late- March and continue throughout the spring and summer.
