Guideline of How to Register an NGO Company… NGOs are registered as Incorporated Trustees in Nigeria. Incorporated Trustees is used for: charities, churches ,community based organizations, mosques, places of worship, political parties,  professional groups, religious groups, social clubs, trade unions, women’s groups and youth clubs. A trustee is more like a director but is not interested in making profits and is concerned in maintaining the aims and objectives of the NGO.

Register an NGO Company in Nigeria

 

The registration of a NGO in Nigeria is more complicated than registration of a company.

Steps on Registering an NGO in Nigeria.

 

  • Name Availability Search:

 

Carryout Name availability search with the Corporate Affairs Commission. NGO names often end with Association, Foundation, Initiative, Network or Organization.

 

  • Publications in Newspapers:

 

Publish the approved name in two (2) national newspapers and one (1) local paper is the second step.

 

  • Submission of IT Form 1:

 

Submit completed form to the Corporate Affairs Commission with three (3) copies of:

  1. Letter of Application.
  2. Corporate Affairs Commission Application “IT Form 1”, signed by chairman and secretary.
  3. Company’s Constitution.
  4. Minutes of Meeting (MoM) where trustees were appointed, signed by the chairman and secretary.
  5. MoM where special rules were adopted, signed by the chairman and the secretary.
  6. Trustee declaration forms; the forms must be declared by each trustee before a High Court. You may choose a Federal High Court or a State High Court.
  7. Pay 20,000 Naira fee to the Corporate Affairs Commission. The fee is payable at a bank, or online.

LEGAL FORM CHARGES FOR INCORPORATED TRUSTEE REGISTRATION

Registration service is no longer provided by Legal Forms but nevertheless, you can hire a lawyer from the Legal Form Marketplace. For registering NGOs outside Nigeria, you can use a Legal Form.  The IDs required are passports, permanent voter’s card and Nigerian driving license.
