Malaysian Navy Recruitment… Ministry of Defence was established on 31 August 1957 and officially began operations in a building located in Brockman Road (now Jalan Dato’ Onn), Kuala Lumpur. This building also housed the office of the first Defence Minister, the late Tun Abdul Razak bin Datuk Hussein, who served from 31 August 1957 to 22 September 1970.

To accommodate all the agencies under one roof, the government has decided to build a new building for the Ministry of Defence. As symbolic, the foundation stone was laid by the then Deputy Defence Minister, Dato’ Abu Bakar bin Datu Abang Abang Haji Mustapha on 10 March 1982. The new building is located at Jalan Padang Tembak, Kuala Lumpur and was built with a budget of RM144 million and was completed in mid 1985. This 20 storey high building is known as “WISMA PERTAHANAN” and provides office space and meeting rooms. The area around “WISMA PERTAHANAN” known as the Defence Complex also provides facilities such as multi-storey car park building, auditorium, prayer room, Field of Defence (Parade Ground), guard stations, towers, computer room, ‘helipad’, cafeteria and others.
Royal Malaysian Navy
Enlistment – noncommissioned for twelve years as non-commissioned officer and granted the extension of service for one more three years unendingly till twenty one years and may be submitted to the upper authority for thought and approval. Commission
Malaysian Defense National University’s Officers Cadets
– Passed Malaysian Certificate Education.

Type of Service
Short-Commissioned Officer
-Served for ten years as commission officers and granted the extension of service for more three years. Bases
The RMN’s Fleet HQ is called KD Malaya, in Lumut, Perak. Another base is also being constructed on Pulau Langkawi, Kedah to provide the RMN with readier access into the Indian Ocean. Ready access into the Pacific Ocean is available via the existing base at Semporna, Sabah.
Malaysian Navy Recruitment Requirements
- Age
You have to be at least 18 years and not more than 39 years to join the Malaysian Navy.
Applicants who aren’t up to 18 years and are just 17 need to seek and have parental consent.
- Citizenship
You have to be a citizen of Malaysia by birth
At least either of your parents must have Malaysian citizenship.
- Marital Status
Whether you are single, married, divorced or widowed, you are eligible to participate in the recruitment process of the Malaysian Navy.
Note that there is no guarantee that you would be posted to the same place with your partner if he or she is also recruited into the Malaysian Navy.
- Criminal record
Applicants must ensure that they have no record of felony against that or any pending case of felony in any reputable court of justice.
- Education
Applicants must at least be educated up to high school level for recruits while those who seek to enter through to the officer rank must at least have a college degree.
